WHAT
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) and the World Bank are co-hosting a flood relief Map-a-Thon event, in which participants will learn how to create maps using satellite imagery and work together to complete the missing maps in Muang Xay, Oudomxay Province. The World Bank’s Mapper and GIS Specialist will provide training and guide you through your mapping journey. The maps will help to inform a project that will reduce flooding and improve urban planning in Muang Xay.
WHY
Participants will leave with new skills, and their map-a-thon work will help expedite relief and reconstruction efforts.
WHO
Nominated mappers from Government, NGO, University/academic institutions, or other national and international organization, who are interested in mapping Knowledge and experience in geography, GIS and city planning are an advantage but are not required.
HOW
Participants should bring their own laptop. All training materials will be provided by the instructors.
